[Xbox] CNet News: Reports of 'GTA IV' freezing-up problems

http://www.news.com/8301-13772_3-9931985-52.html?tag=nl.e703

Uh-oh.

For all the champagne toasts that are no doubt going on over at Take-Two Interactive and its subsidiary Rockstar Games over the grand launch day of Grand Theft Auto IV, there's a bit of a dark cloud brewing.

According to a post on CNET News.com sister site GameSpot, there's a brouhaha afoot in GTA IV forums all over the Internet because of some players' complaints that the game is freezing up on them.

As GameSpot's Brendan Sinclair points out, it was only a month ago that another one of Rockstar's games, Bully had freezing-up problems. Now, with reports of crashes with GTA IV, mostly on the PlayStation 3, but also on the Xbox 360, one has to wonder if perhaps there's someone in Rockstar's QA department that's not doing their job.

Other recent hit games, of course, have also had quality problems. You might recall that some players of Guitar Hero III had problems with their guitar controllers.

So one thing that will certainly help Take-Two and Rockstar get through this relatively unscathed--assuming the reports of GTA IV freezing up are real--is if they react quickly and solve the problem and reach out to their users. If they don't, it won't look good.

Re: [Xbox] Re: New poll for Xbox

I would like to offer to help but cannot at this time. I have 3 decent Mods helping out at GFL but I have taken over approving new members myself only because I didn't want to add the work onto them.

I might see a break when my second job gets done with in a week or so, but if there is ever a emergency feel free to mod me up and I will keep it under control until you get back on the keyboard up again.

Thanks,
Nate

as for adding another mod.. I've ASKED the group.. (hmm.. twice now I believe) if one of the regulars would like to be made into a mod to help keep things streamlined
when myself or Todd's time runs low, and requested that people mail me off list.. Guess how many Emails I got?  Yep:   0.
and I will not just make anyone a Mod.. =)   besides, I've asked Proph and he polity said no.

Seriously tho, instead of opening the floodgates why not just make
Proph a Mod with no real abilities? Yahoo! Groups are famously stupid
for this one, you can boost someone up to Mod level and then basically
uncheck all their features. At that point they'd get a copy of anything
sent to the Owner's mailbox (groupname-owner@whatever) and be able
to do anything you set to Mods Only like that. The exception is setting
permissions and auto-send stuff out in the Files area and that, because
Yahoo! actually has a switch built-in for that you'd have unchecked.

That way the runts stay outta the mix and whoever you set up like that
can do what they've gotta do!

Heh, well quality is far better than quantity for sure! So I understand

just offering a bit of a trick I'd discovered that lets you make like a 'Poll
Mod' who couldn't do anything else, let them have at it instead of putting
it on you two. Trust me, you know I know what a PIA managing groups
is!

I used to respond to the Polls until I figured out they weren't really
more than what someone else said - gauges that sometimes turn into
heated discussions here or worse, worthless. So I stopped using them
here, another factor was when there was more than one or a decent
answer was left out, etc.

No one responded for being a Mod? Not one?? That's stunning even
to me, I'd have figured you had a line of disqualified out the door more
than absolute zero!

Re: [Xbox] Re: GTA IV First impressions - For real

Any "display issues" are related to whatever overscanning your TV is doing.
Granted, that should be tested to ensure it is not detrimental to the game
but that said, they can't test every TV on the market. This is exactly why I
do not like HDMI on my TV because ALL resolutions are overscanned and which I
haven't noticed anything important cut off it reduces the overall resolution
considerably and enduces ghosting where none is present on the 1:1 ratio VGA
input.

And to Proph NO, I don't want to start this argument of overscanning again.
Fact is, for some people it exists as the VGA input is the ONLY one that on
ALL HDTVs is 1:1 ratio, if you can output its native resolution from your
console that is (so people with 1680x1050 TVs are out of luck).

Re: [Xbox] Re: New poll for Xbox

Heh, well quality is far better than quantity for sure! So I understand
that one. And Proph always says no, he hates everything! LOL I was
just offering a bit of a trick I'd discovered that lets you make like a 'Poll
Mod' who couldn't do anything else, let them have at it instead of putting
it on you two. Trust me, you know I know what a PIA managing groups
is!

I used to respond to the Polls until I figured out they weren't really
more than what someone else said - gauges that sometimes turn into
heated discussions here or worse, worthless. So I stopped using them
here, another factor was when there was more than one or a decent
answer was left out, etc.

No one responded for being a Mod? Not one?? That's stunning even
to me, I'd have figured you had a line of disqualified out the door more
than absolute zero!

Re: [Xbox] Re: New poll for Xbox

Proph? Polls? Oh how many jokes are in that one! ROFL
