Easier to use, yes. Superior, not necessarily.

What is the definition of a good OS? Surely stability, size, RAM
requirements? Linux can do what Windows can do using less disk space and
less RAM.

For starters, my DVB-T card works better on Linux than it does on Windows with
ANY software I could find, never mind the supplied software. It even
automatically handles it if you have more than one DVB card in the same
machine. You can watch one channel while recording several others - WITH A
SINGLE CARD, because it lets you watch anything on the same mux. Never seen
Windows software than can do that, certainly not out of the box.

Granted you have to accept that Windows would possibly be even better if
people didn't keep suing them for trying to do what MacOS and Linux do -
provide software as standard with the OS that can do almost everything you
need. So you can't really hold it against Microsoft that Windows doesn't
have built-in clients for lots of stuff, for some mental reason they aren't
allowed to and get sued for trying while Apple ARE allowed to.

Remember what I said though, Windows is my desktop OS of choice. I find it a
lot more friendly to use than Linux no matter how I theme it. Linux always
feels clunky even if you style it to look like Windows and there always seems
to be an app or two that isn't as stable as the rest of the OS and let it
down. But its gotten a LOT better and I am trying to get as many of my game
on Linux as possible now, because using WINE you never have to reinstall any
apps as they are stored in your home directory. I'm sick of every time I
reinstall Windows I have to reinstall all the games from scratch, its one of
the big reasons I switched to console gaming so I wouldn't have to do that or
worry about forgetting to backup game saves before formatting.

Vista though, I like it. But XP with a Vista theme on it works a lot better
and feels just as nice, it just lacks those little explorer tweaks but they
aren't worth having to have 4 times as much RAM and a much bigger OS
partition.
