One thing that really pissed me off on Vista 64bit was that Silverlight
doesn't seem to work exactly right.
I had this Xbox Live applet that used Silverlight but just kept telling me to
install it, when it was already installed. Damn annoying.
There were quite a few people saying the same thing, that it simply won't work
on 64bit. So again, I think 64bit is still a little behind. But I certainly
didn't have a great deal of compatibility problems personally. Once I turned
off Aero things seemed a lot more instantaneous (probably mostly because the
fading feels like lag so I prefer things to happen NOW rather than fancy
graphical effects) and I didn't have the annoyance of it turning on and off
at will when I ran an older incompatible application.
So like I said, overall I like Vista but I do think they have bloated it which
is annoying. I certainly will not hate using it in the future though. I
found it a lot less painful than going from Win98 to XP and some of the
slight tweaks to explorer should have happened years ago - like asking you to
close a file if its locked and you try to move/rename it, with a retry option
instead of just giving up. Also seeing the speed of file copy operations, I
just love things like that so I can see if something isn't going as fast as
it should be.
