to what appears to work better than something else in many cases. I have
both XP and Vista on two machines comparable in makeup other than the
fact one's a pure Intel setup with internal graphics (XP) and the other's am
AMD/Nvidia internal combo on the laptop (Vista). I see pros and cons for
both, but I am ready to flop the XP upwards very soon. That's just me.
But to spin this back round to a gaming aspect (at least), here's the major
problem when you try to throw Linux in:
I had Dos 6.2 and Win for Workgroups 3.11 once. WFW was nice, slick
(for back then) but I could crank through DOS like nothing. Linux, not trying
to compare the capabilities to the simplicity which is what I'm really talking
about, is like DOS. Commands, flow, done. No bloatware, no fluff, no eye
candy like Windows or even Apple's OS's have. Nobody had WFW, 90%
of those with PC's had DOS and everything came out compatible with DOS.
Try to load it through a DOS emulator in Windows - most times it crapped out.
So everything built was built for DOS.
Today we have XP/Vista and Linux. I still have yet to find one major game
release that's come out for Linux. Games for Windows? Tons. But no Linux
ports, not things that'll run with emulators - I'm talking Games for Linux.
And that continues into software. Linux is nice, but it's missing way too
much of the everyday stuff people use to keep up the pace. Even Apple's
doing a better job of it!
I use Linux exclusively on my web servers. Period. Won't touch Win
servers, they're buggy as hell and totally unsecured for the most part. Like
walking around in a pogo stick contest with your fly open hoping nothing's
gonna tag you. So I'm a huge Linux fan myself, but not for my business or
home PC's because the rest of the software packages aren't there - including
games which MIGHT even run better under Linux!
So XP/Vista/Linux/32 Bit/64 Bit/Apple - whatever, it's just kinda lame if it
can't play the games... or something decent...
