I recently submitted to EA via their online support site a complaint
about NFS: Carbon's Urban Battle Achievement defect. Their response was
to the effect that it was a problem either with my understanding of the
game or with my ability to play the game, and not anything that was
their responsibility. Any of you who have played the Carbon extensively
already know that the Free Roam Challenge is not that hard to win, and
in fact the fifty wins required for the Urban Battle Achievement can
easily be done in one sitting--if you don't fall asleep from boredom in
the meantime. Admittedly, I also have yet to get several of the other
Carbon Achievements, but I will in time--assuming EA ever hold another
Race Week, and that there are still some identifiable EA Moderators out
there who aren't just too, too busy to compete with the customers in
order to facilitate a Moderator Challenge win. So far, I have only 44
out of 50 achievements, but I will get them all--if EA get out of my way.
Apparently, EA feel that the customers who buy their games do not
deserve a game that works as advertised. Consequently, I find it
impossible to recommend EA Games to anyone until this problem is fixed.
I hope that other players of NFS: Carbon will make their dissatisfaction
known to EA, and help to spread the word to all gamers that NFS: Carbon,
though a wonderful game in other respects, has a problem that will
negatively affect their enjoyment of the game, and one that EA refuses
to fix. I do not say that EA lie to us, but I do say that they hide the
truth.
I am tempted to predict that they will simply drop the game from their
product line, rather than fix its defects. Such a choice would deter me
from buying another EA game in the future. Why spend big dollars for a
potentially defective product, from a company with a history of
disrespect for its market? EA were, last time I checked, still offering
NFS: Carbon for the Xbox 360 at the reduced price of 19.95.
ALERT: On checking the EA site just moments ago,
I see that Carbon no longer appears there for
the Xbox 360, though it is available for other
systems, priced from ~20 to ~55 dollars.
Apparently, what might have been a prediction is now merely an
observation. What a shame. Will the folks who buy the recently released
NFS: Carbon for the MAC experience the same defective game response? Why
would they not? Do those customers who DOWNLOAD the _NFS: Carbon,
Collector's Edition_ for the PC, at a price of _$54.95_, also get a
defective game? Why would they not?
Below is my most recent NFS: Carbon complaint to EA. We shall see if
they have a more realistic response this time, and I will let you know
whether or not they do:
---
"Some EA Games are wonderful. But EA support policies are reprehensible.
"EA have a widely known defect in NFS: Carbon that EA refuses to
acknowledge. EA continue to offer a game for sale that is defective and
have made no effort to either correct the product's deficiencies or to
mitigate problems for the customer after the sale. EA continue to
pretend that there is nothing wrong, even after many complaints from
gamers and months of opportunity to make the needed corrections. This is
something that should and will be brought to the attention of Federal
and State authorities. EA's pretense that they do not understand that
there is a problem is fraudulent. There are eight people in the WORLD
out of hundreds of thousands of NFS: Carbon players who have all fifty
Achievements, according to mygamercard.net. Because of a defect in the
game which does not allow the Urban Battle achievement to be
awarded--despite the fact that the player has fulfilled the nominal
requirements of game play for the award, the customer is being cheated
out of the satisfactions of the game for which he has paid good money.
The stated requirements for the Urban Battle Achievement are not that
difficult. Thousands of players have done it, as I have, and yet not
received the Award.
"At a minimum, an public admission and full explanation of the problem
must be made by EA, and the game programming corrected to allow the
award when the game play parameters are met. EA must correct the
Achievement award status of each player who has been awarded the Reward
Card for fifty Free Roam Challenge wins to show the Urban Battle
achievement accomplished.
"_NEED FOR SPEED: CARBON_ IS DEFECTIVE. EA SHOULD FIX IT, AND STOP
DISSEMBLING IN AN ATTEMPT TO AVOID BOTH RESPONSIBILITY AND LIABILITY."
