online games. Unless you have a group of people you know who actually
like you and want to play well as a team on games like Call of Duty,
there is no real reason to voice chat with them. It's just distracting
and takes away some of the immersion to have jerks mouthing off during
a game. If the game allows it, I disable voice chat on both PC and
Xbox 360 games. I prefer to use text to communicate anyway. The guys
I play with use a code system for faster communication via text.
For example, if we are playing COD or something like it on our
computers and someone wants to warn me to watch our left flank, he'll
type something like "tl" or if he wants to warn me that an enemy is
behind me he'll type "w6" for watch your six. If we need help we
type "cf" for covering fire or "fm" for form on me. When playing
multiplayer on Xbox360 games, I just follow teammates around and try to
provide covering fire for them without doing any talking. My favorite
on games that have it, is to get into the turret of a tank someone is
driving and shoot while they drive. For me, that's the most fun in a
team-based war game.
It's less chaotic than a lot of talking.
