Re: [Xbox] 360 & Vista

wow, now your comparing XP x86 to vista x64, are u this clueless?  i mean come on, i know your stupid, but i didn't think you were this stupid

So basically you are saying you can't compare ANYTHING because they have differences. Erm, that's the whole POINT of comparing stuff. If they were exactly the same then there wouldn't be anything TO compare. The whole point of comparing one item to another is to identify its differences and benefits against another product. So perhaps comparing Apples to Oranges actually makes MORE sense than comparing Apples to Apples. That said, I still disagree that comparing Windows to Linux is the same thing. Both of those OS can run technically run my Windows apps, or can run apps that do the same tasks either better or worse. So at the end of the day, its worth comparing. If you never compared different OS then you would never know if one was better than the other for what you wanted. Besides, I still say XP 32bit runs "the software I use" faster than Vista 64bit does. Like I already said, perhaps I should install Vista 32bit for a fairer comparison but at the end of the day its not about comparing IDENTICAL systems, that's fairly pointless. Its about comparing DIFFERENT things to see if they are better/worse than what I am currently using. Alex. On Monday 21 April 2008 16:39:14 PSCG Cleveland wrote:
Actually by his logic and your own ya just spewed out, you shot yourself in the ass? Linux works fundamentally differently than Windows does, but they're both OS's that can run on the same machine (for the most part). You can't run PS3 titles on a 360 (or vice versa), you can't use anything from a PSOne on a Sega Saturn and you sure as hell can't run anything from one phone on another without major porting because of the difference in hardware and platforms involved. So all of those examples are Apples to Oranges... On Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 11:21 AM, Alex Atkin <yahoo@maewhitman.com> wrote:
So comparing the PS3 to the Xbox 360 is Apples to Oranges too I presume? Like comparing the Sega Saturn to the PSone? Comparing Windows to Linux is EXACTLY the same principle as above. They might be different arcitectures but people are going to use them for the same tasks therefore comparing them against each other is inevitable. By your logic you can't compare a Nokia phone against a Sony Ericsson because, god forbid, they have a different OS. But if they are designed to do the same tasks its perfectly logical to compare them. If you can't compare Windows to Linux, or one games console against another then basically you are saying NOTHING can be compared against each other - because they aren't by the company. Alex. why do u keep comping apples to oranges? and if you don't have a suitable test environment why bother at all? why does everything you say seem so irrelevant? Alex Atkin wrote:
It was just an annoying thing I noticed when I was trying to TEST Vista for the first time. I couldn't dedicate more than about 10GB of disk space to it as it was my previously Linux partition. Also, Linux installs its OS and ALL its apps in less than 5GB, even when it has 2 copies of all the libraries because its the 64bit version. So what on earth is Microsoft wasting all that space on? Alex. On Friday 18 April 2008 18:13:26 PRoPHeTiZeR wrote:
well, if you only have a 16GB drive in your machine, it couldn't run vista anyways. why point out such stupid things that don't matter? whats wrong with u man, do u hate the world? hate yourself? hate your life? wtf Alex Atkin wrote:
Ah yes, but it refuses to install if you have less than 16GB free as I recall. Also, the 64bit version is a bit bigger I believe. Alex. On Friday 18 April 2008 02:17:45 PRoPHeTiZeR wrote:
who cares how much space it takes, and it's not 16GB, it's 8 Alex Atkin wrote:
But is it as fast as XP? I don't think so. I like the interface, I hate the bloat. Just try to convince me 16GB is necessary for a basic Windows install! Go on! Alex. On Friday 18 April 2008 00:27:20 PRoPHeTiZeR wrote:
vista is not terrible if your machine is built for it Alan K. Martinez wrote:
I ordered it with 2 gig 1 dimm so I can order a second 2 gig later and find it cheaper... so I will up it to 4 gig eventually... All opinions aside of the OS I should be in good shape. I have a copy of XP Pro I can throw on it if Vista is that terrible and
just
keep the Vista install in the recovery partition if they put out patches and updates that fix any problems I have... ---------------------------------------------------------- -- -- - *From:* Xbox@yahoogroups.com [mailto:Xbox@yahoogroups.com] *On Behalf Of *PogoWolf *Sent:* Thursday, April 17, 2008 12:58 PM *To:* Xbox@yahoogroups.com *Subject:* Re: [Xbox] 360 & Vist Well your first problem will be Vista.. and the 2nd.. 3rd.. 4th.. 5th.. and so one. =) Vista can interact with the 360 because of the built end media edition extensions, which you get with Windows Media player 11. or with other free 3rd party tools. as for the machine.. all depends on what you plan to use it for, but since are runing vista the FIRST thing I would do is scrape
the
2 gig and max it out with 4 GIG of Ram. Vista really REALLY wants 2 gig just to operate 'normally' let alone running anything. Since there's no 'good' video I assume the laptop won't be used
for
gameing, but it looks like it would handle everything else. so the only thing I can really recommund, is uping the RAM from 2 gig to 4. On Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 3:45 PM, Alan K.
