This is probably because the Poll itself was pointless or crappy.
Create a good poll and people will naturally show interest.

I think people don't put end dates on polls because they want more than
10 people to vote on them. The biggest turn out so far I've seen was
80 which is great. It really gives you a better idea of what the
members think than just five or six votes.
