Enix, those lovable SOBs they are, played stupid the entire time and
wouldn't say what would and wouldn't work. So we said (#*$(#* it and
wandered on over to WallyWorld and snagged a basic Micro Innovations
USB WIRELESS keyboard/mouse combo. She prefers the 360 controller
far better than the mouse, but the keyboard base unit plug into the back
USB port, strung forward for range and then she uses it in her lap w/out
any wires - no problem (other'n distance from a cheap-ass keyboard
setup obviously). And again, you won't find any statements online from
SE or MS that any keyboard would even work - much less a wireless
setup - with FFXI. But it does. So try first, may even need a couple as
I've seen posts around the Net where some models worked and some
didn't - smells all over of Vista quite honestly?
Also, we've taken the hardwired 360 controller and finally found the
setup (not the driver, that was easy) to use it with her FFXI on the
laptop (yes, a PC! <Grin>) when she's not near the 360. Oh, addiction
ain't just for drugs anymore... LOL!
So snag a few USB keyboards and give that a try, then state that they
all don't work and MS actually did lock it out. We can use the keyboard
all over the 360 too, helps with all that typing and crud! But it does work
with quite a few of the games and XBL stuff off the top of my head?
Same went with me for those Time Warner bastages. Kept swearing
the HDMI port on the back of the DVR was totally disabled, bought a $6
mail order cable vs. the $130 Monster (junk) and plugged it in. Worked
like a charm, all the time.
