For those who aren't familiar with it, it is an app you download to
your pc, which allows you to watch internet video on your TV via your
consoles - so far only PS3, Xbox 360 or HP MediaSmart TV (requires a
UPnP/DLNA device). Works only on XP/Vista boxes; the console and PC
must be on the same router.
I read about it in Engagent, signed up for the Beta and installed
it. I had no issues with it. My only complaint is that any media
that wasn't from Hulu looked really bad on my HDTV, whereas the Hulu
media was okay at best. Still it was cool to look at the top 20
clips (the Saturday Night Live clips were great). Also, you can find
some movies in Hulu, but they weren't setup as a separate category as
they appear via the web.
So far, have only used it a few times (release 2.58) and have not
seen any issues at all. The Beta is apparently a "trial" in which
allegedly after 60 days you can buy the app for $30 or say good-bye.
I say apparently because the 60 day countdown counter on the PlayOn
Settings Manager has not started to countdown (the counter is right
next to Trialware on the registration page). Without movies,
Netflix, and some additional pending features, I'm not sure it's
worth it, but for only $30....
