I will say that on my old modded xbox, I would get the dirty disc error running the game entirely off HDD

glitch not a drive error.
The only bad thing about having games on the HD is if they use the HD for
cache then they might actually be slower than they could be, unless they
recognise they are already on the HD so turn off the caching. Copying from
HD (DVD image) to HD (cache) would be pretty silly.
