Here's a little trick... Can anyone confirm that the HD-DVD Add on player upconverts SDTV DVD's? Better than just playing them in the internal player? If it does a better job, plus it's totally external therefore reducing the amount of heat generated playing DVD's in a 360 (geeze, get a player for normal DVD's?) I'm all over one of these during the panicked sell off for next to nothing! Nice upconverter eliminates the need for a DVD player at that TV plus I'd never have to worry about DVD play shortening my 360's life from the overheating during playback. I don't do that now, but it would be nice to take the VCR/DVD burner off that TV since it's gathering dust and get it back out where we have a few VHS's and watch TV to burn on DVDs as a DVR! Tiger Direct (I don't endorse'm, trust me) is dumping new Toshiba players for $90 w/5 discs (of whatever was produced for the short run). But if people are going to firesale the 360 external unit AND MS gives it a warranty I'm in the market! LOL On Sun, Feb 24, 2008 at 9:27 AM, Todd Welch <toddw81@gmail.com> wrote:
http://gizmodo.com/360054/microsoft-xbox-360-hd-dvd-player-officially-discontinued/ It was only a matter of time before Microsoft officially discontinued manufacturing the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on, but it took them a few days longer than we expected. Their statement is finally out, and it signals Microsoft's official withdraw from HD DVD on the console front. The good news is that they'll still continue to support and repair your player based on the standard warranty, but chances are you'll get little future use out of that player now that no movies will be made for it. What's still unclear is whether there will ever be a Blu-ray add-on to the 360 that's cheap enough to sell the Xbox + Blu-ray package at a comparable price to the PS3 ($399ish). We're guessing that something along these lines will hit within the year. -- Todd Welch ----------------------- TCTEKS Technologies -Affordable Computer Sales, Service & Repair -Clearwire High Speed Wireless Internet -Cellular One: Get the Signal 127 N.
