I don't think any of the companies are in a hurry for another console. They lose a ton of money in the first 2-3 years of the consoles life (except the Wii), they want to make sure they get they're money's worth before they move on. The original Xbox's life was only shorter because they wanted to beat Sony to market on a next-gen console war.
I would swear I've seen this same exact post before.

Weird title huh?
well guess what...think about it....come November of this year...we
will be 3 years into the 360's life cycle ( a typical system life
cycle is 5 years on avg.) and the following year after that, the
same for Wii and PS3 (yet we are still calling these systems next
gen). So, if the law of averages holds, there should be a new system
from all 3 companies on the horizon come 2010 - 11.
And, when you think about it, we still haven't seen EVERYTHING these
systems can do yet and that Sony's PS2 is STILL hot and...slowly but
surely people are moving from that to the PS3.
So, do you think that there will be new systems that we should be
ready for in about 2 or 3 years or do you think that with all 3
systems still breaking ground right now, more time should be given
to us consumers to enjoy these systems before something new comes on
the market?
(and subsequentially break our pockets....again....)
