Re: [Xbox] Re: My son's Xbox has 3 red lights on and wont work.

Uh... The Blanket Party trick does work, used it myself. But it's
not always a permanent fix and if she's got RRoD and MS already
willing to fix it gratis (like free) and the kid's not dying without it
while she gets it secretly handled - send the sucker in.

If you're stuck with a box you can't ship in, maybe you voided
the security tag or mod'ed it or Lord knows what else OR you have
no time to wait - then the Blanket Party is worth a shot on the
older consoles.

And for reference from my experience - a simple large blanket
will work, the thicker and woolier the better over stock 'towels'.
You wrap the entire box, don't leave anything exposed beyond
a hole to stick your finger in and pop the power button. Then
it could take anywhere from 2-3 minutes to over an hour in some
situations for it to RRoD out permanently or magically come
back to life. The better the wrap, the better the shot it's going to
melt what it has to melt and get you back to good. You should
leave it plugged into everything and monitor the TV for some
boot-up action as well to know when it's 'done' cooking.

Again - AT YOUR OWN RISK. All I'm sayin, you do it, you
did it - not me or anyone else. I've tried it in a pinch, thought it
was the stupidest thing I ever heard of until I read the logic of
why it's supposed to work - it worked. Never had to touch that
console again. Did it one other time and left some open gaps,
towels, etc. instead of a blanket (thus blanket party?) and it
didn't do quite the trick. Corrected that - also never gave us a
fit again, both still in active use all the time.

But in this case, she's got all the time in the world... so ship
that puppy ASAP.
