beyond me, requires actual extra work so you'd think they'd have left

My guess - majorly PO'ed monkey who did JUST what he was told
be his a-ho boss... 'all unit exteriors should be cleaned to give the
consumer a better-appearing unit for higher satisfaction'. So he did! ROFL
