I wish that i could currently tell you i only got to a level 18 mithra and then had to down my account and it doesnt seem like they wanna find my account like they did before to restore it again.., i just recently bought the wings of the goddess.., so yah im looking to get back into playing.., and I will be using the 120HDD cause youre right the 20 gig is too small for that game. Wish I could be more helpful to you. If your better half plays the crap outta the game and doesnt mind a fledgling player I'd love to learn from an experienced one.

Ok, I know this'll hit a limited audience but we're trying to lock
down what's causing the problem. This is my other half's passion,
I got bored with it early on so I'm half-familiar with the game.

On the 360 version of FFXI, gameplay's normal but during two
intense data movement missions called Besieged and Campaigns
the sucker likes to lock up. It appears to basically get bogged
down and simply 'sticks'. Sometimes the logjam breaks and
you can continue play but most of the time the sucker has to
be rebooted.

Apparently it's common on 360's, but this game is a huge HDD
hog for openers. Like it eats up most of your stock 20GB HDD.

So what I'm thinking is that there's minimal cache room because
the drive's filled to near capacity so the 360 can't really make it's
version of a Page File like on Windows to handle the data packets.
Now the packets on FFXI are incredibly small to begin with but
during these two sessions you're playing with a ton of people,
sometimes upwards of over 100. So that means a boatload of
data being shoved around like an elephant through a keyhole.

Anyone here play FFXI on the 360 and have a 120GB HDD and
you don't experience these problems? Every 20GB person we've
spoken to has it, so that's why I'm wondering if it's a bit of a
glitch due to the drive size?
