You can technically auto-sign people up with Yahoo! Groups and I think
you can with Google Groups now as well. But that's not what whoever
this is was using, they're using Google's Feedburner mailing list setup
as a 'blog' to shove those e-mails at us. The Google Group and even the
mail accounts & blog are totally anonymous, no one's name on it at all
but they're just a part of things.
I couldn't find any loaded links where someone's getting credit when
you click or bogus deals, etc. Looks like some of the stuff that's shown
up here on the XBox group in some cases? Just someone's piled it all
up but then was stupid enough to harvest e-mails from at least this group
and then attempt to trick us into signing up.
Only reason I thought I might've done it was that I clicked on that one
article posted up recently with news from NFG about that 360 price drop
and photo. Thought maybe to see the photos I signed up for that thing
somewhere and forgot, name sounded reasonable so I did what you did.
I hate spammers, but I hate bottom-feeding scum harvesters who can't
let their own work speak for itself far worse. I'd have probably signed up
for the stupid thing if it was presented to me honestly, now they gotta go!
