Re: [Xbox] Next Xbox?

I'm already on U-verse..  there's still come kinks.. LOL
mostly because it's fiber to the CO.. Copper to your home, then CAT5 to the all in one router/recevier
then Cat5 to the DVR, and coaxle to the TV itself.  so you're loosing some speed between all the
transfers.. however, it is faster then cable.. even on my 20+ year old apartment copper.

Well that's what I was saying... You're talking more of an XBox 360
Platinum than an all-new XBox 'something' (last code-named 720). Where
they take what they have and add the goodies that you're saying they
will. I'd expect that possibly even by Xmas with the new regime and
management shuffles, they've been poking around looking for the right
hookups for the BluRay and such for most of this year.

So I agree with what you said, but that's just another model of 360
and it sounded more like he was asking when the '720' or next-next-gen
box was coming out.

Now about that DVR crud...

A) Like you said - MUCH bigger drive.

B) Like I said right here months ago - IT EXISTS! They've been
road-testing the stupid thing overseas as AT&T's new 'cable-buster'
all in one digital TV receiver! The major problem here in the US is
that we're slow as hell and it's taking AT&T & Verizon (the largest
geographical providers) too freakin long to roll out the Fiber Op
network needed to shove all that down the pipeline to the hungry
masses (like myself) waiting to hook up to it. Finally I saw them
out near our place pulling fiber so we can get the U-Verse package
in 2009 - at the latest.

But our networks can't handle the DVR setups on the 360, least
not for the DSL providers to use that way. DVR is a glorified PC
recording system. Right now Cable Co's use MPEG-2 and cram
it down the too-tiny cable bandwidth pipes, usually ruining the
signal. DVR w/HDTV really demands MPEG-4 to keep the quality
and that >demands< FiberOp. Regular phone lines or cable can't
pump that much signal out, or if they do you're gonna get a
whopping 20 channels!

So what you're saying exists, MS just has to pull the limiters off
what they have in the 360 right now. DVR'ing is just recording a
digital file, you do that now on Live! sucking down a movie to the
HDD. And it's MS limiting the HDD capacities, they have to fix
that. If they've already inked that deal permanently with AT&T that
is causing them to hold back this stuff so that AT&T's got an
exclusive DSL/Digital TV package on the 360's - there's why we
haven't seen it now. We're all guinea pigs with Live! perfecting the
code in stages to create the ultimate 360/DVR/DTV Tuner system.

I'll bet money MS doesn't care about system sales. They've got
the established base out there and now they're working on being
the dominant content provider through Live! since Sorry (Sony) and
Nintendo can't seem to get it right. They're making their money
back on that large, long-term investment and once perfected by
all of us - they get the huge payoff with millions of units sold to
AT&T and the like for DTV. Don't kid yourself, it's the ultimate
master plan.

Only hitch is those of us with older console models may get
shut out or have to spend money to buy 'upgrade packs' that
plug into the expansion ports to make the new stuff fly.
