Re: [Xbox] Inside Xbox Problem

yes, but unless your TV is 120Hz, your 24p isn't going to look as good as it can, it will have to do pulldown.

Actually on that LG its really neat. Not only is it per input but its per resolution too. Its very useful on the PS3 as it means you have the best settings for Blu-ray (because it runs at 1080p 24Hz) while also having different settings for games (1080p 60Hz). I'm not 100% sure 720p and 1080p have their own settings, I never thought to check. Will obviously learn the quirks once I get my replacement. Alex. cool, you need to do this per input though. i use DVE to get basic adjustment, then i adjust to my liking. i havne't found out how to do this with my cable box yet though lol Alex Atkin wrote:
Well Cinema mode is based around D65 supposedly. Perhaps not pre-calibrated as such, seeing as calibration is about setting your TV to match your equipment so it can NEVER be perfect out of the box, depends if your equipment is based around the standard too. What I meant was its known to be pretty close by default which is probably close enough for me. "Well here are my final settings for HDMI (from upscaling Sony DVD player). Backlight 20 Contrast 100 Brightness 55 Sharpness 0 Colour 49 Tint G2 Colour Temp Medium Flesh Contrast Off Flesh Colour Off Noise Reduction Off Gamma Medium Black Low Eye Care Off Real Cinema Off TruMotion Low The only thing to "tweak" is the backlight according to the ambient light in the room. These settings were arrived at using the DVE disc and the RGB colour filters. It's amazing how close to D65 this set can get (on the standard picture setting) by simply adjusting the main colour setting and the tint a fraction." Alex. LG pre-calibrated? maybe it's true, maybe it's not, if it is, then thats the first time in history, TVs are pre-calibrated for showroom floors, not the home user. i just did a quick search at avsforum and don't see anything your mentioning, if it was true, it would be there. Alex Atkin wrote:
I never said I did calibrate it right. I only calibrate to what looks good to me, not standards. The LG however is supposed to be pre-calibrated almost perfectly to certain Blu-ray players according to reports online from people who checked it using something like video essentials or whatever its called. I found before I packed it up that sticking it on Cinema mode and cranking the backlight on to full (I hate Cinema brightness even in the Cinema, its too dull and makes me tired) looked fine to me for Blu-ray playback. But anyway yeah my Samsung probably is not optimal whereas the LG pretty much is out of the box. It doesn't alter the fact that the LG is 2 years newer technology and an IPS panel rather than the PVA the Samsung has, so will always look a damn site better than the Samsung. This is heavily helped by PAL Half-HDTVs stupid habit of being 768p instead of 720p and only accepting 720p or 1080i/p (my Samsung does not support 1080p input, slightly too old) over HDMI. Going back to the Samsung feels REALLY laggy. On the LG you can pan the camera around in GTA with fairly good clarity, the Samsung on the other hand makes you dizzy and hard to see with a clearly slower response time - either the panel or software, probably both. We could argue about which manufacturer is better, quite frankly it would be silly as I make no claims to know. I just know the LG panels I have seen look "good enough" to me and Vizios are only sold in the US from what I can tell. A friend of mine has a "budget range" 37" 1080p HDTV and I didn't even realise it was 1080p because it looks like ass. The colours are terrible, its dull, just about any bad point you care to name. Plus its not as if Inside Xbox is worth buying a different TV for even if it WAS the TV at fault, which I doubt it is. Alex. On Tuesday 08 July 2008 12:47:48 PRoPHeTiZeR wrote:
maybe u never calibrated it right, i can easily see how you wouldn't know how to do that properly, but still thinking that u did it perfectly Alex Atkin wrote:
Well perhaps its an unfair comparison, but my 2 year old Samsung cannot get close to the picture quality/vibrant images of a 6 month only, smaller, cheaper, LG. In fact I would go so far as to say my Samsung looks dull, washed out and generally not very nice at all. But then, LCD technology likely improved a lot in the last 2 years so its not really a surprise. Put it this way. The latest model LG kicks the living daylights out of my old Samsung. Also, its up to $600 less than the 2" smaller equivalent Samsung in the shops right now. So why wouldn't I favour it? Alex. On Monday 07 July 2008 14:39:43 PRoPHeTiZeR wrote:
LG are the lower end of LCD's, so i don't care how many they make, quantity doesn't equal quality. samsung may have LCD issues, but they do make some of the best LCD screens, they just have software issues, which is too bad PSCG Cleveland wrote:
It was a sane answer, might've sounded insane to you but to at least the two of us it's normality. Yes, the Samsung's a mess on more than just the software side - no argument. But, what you describe as pluses for the LG's - stock stuff on the Vizios we use that we've beat the living (#$* out of and never had any issues like this. All resolutions, multiple formats - never a dropout or glitch like you describe. Doesn't mean it's not happening, just that the Vizio's aren't doing it. Just to be fair and balanced, not making it look like I love to just poke you in the eye for fun and sport, I'm getting my hands on that exact cable and I'm going to give it a whirl with exactly what you've described on both the Vizio's I have working and also my personally annoying Olevia/Syntax Brillian 32" as well to see if the same thing pops up. And in response, I wasn't planning on giving you a solution - I was asking for those details to be able to duplicate it on other setups and see if there is a true glitch or possibly just one on your model of TV OR if it's just you and you're cursed. The details you originally gave is more like 'my ass hurts' and not 'my butt hurts when I sit on a metal table and it's -30f outside in the wintertime' which helps duplicate the environment. Since my Vizio's are on the road all the time in all kinds of temps and weather/power conditions if I asked the same thing no one would probably have the same issues. The Olevia's inside and stable, so that'd be a totally different environment. We've already noticed a difference in the calibration of Guitar Hero III's w/the Les Paul's and the Vizios depending on what kind of power is being supplied to it. Up to 18ms off in some cases. So that's why I asked where the rest of the info is, to see if it's something bigger you can't fix or something in your setups to investigate. If you'd rather just have Proph and me poke ya and never really respond to your posts when you ask for help or information, hey just ask! Of course, the second largest panel producer MUST be the problem. Seriously, the LG from what I have seen has FAR better software than other manufacturers. The Samsung remote and software is just pathetic. You couldnt easily jump from EXT1 to HDMI, you had to keep slowly (it would take about a second to respond) pressing the input select button.. The LG you press input select and it gives you a list. The ONLY problems with the LG are ghosting on all inputs (all TVs do it from what I hear, its some bullshit to do with motion compensation, its not too noticable from a sane viewing distance thankfully) and problems in 100Hz mode with fast motion, but I think thats just the nature of trying to generate an extra frame from 2 frames - you are gonna get artifacts. So yeah please give a SANE answer. I am 99% sure this is the 360 at fault because the corruption is coming in clear, it just looks like a GPU crash to be honest but its not - because it works fine if you then exit back out. Like I said, its clearly not the TV as you well know once the 360 is set to a resolution it ALWAYS outputs that resolution. If the TV couldnt handle 1080p then ALL output at 1080p from the 360 would be affected, its purely some sort of problem upscaling Inside Xbox to 1080p over VGA on my xbox. Very odd. Mind you its not half as bad as the PS3. The 2.40 firmware update just broke the ability to steam AVIs, although some people had far worse issues needing a format of the hard drive in a PC to recover. Alex. Heh, well you said it... But why poor ole' LG? Zenith did so well slapping their nameplate on'em in the beginning, same with some other lower brands that ya know, 'never had issues'. Remember LG - Life's Good... when ya don't buy one. On Sun, Jul 6, 2008 at 12:50 PM, PRoPHeTiZeR <prophetizer@wrup.net>

Its not the TV as Virtua Tennis 3 runs at 1080p perfectly as do playing HD-DVD movies. Like I said, its ONLY Inside Xbox. I failed to give details because I wasn't asking for a fix, just curious if anyone else had the same glitch. For the record, this is the 42LG6000 my NEW TV. Alex.
