I THINK Inside Xbox itself works (I think), its the video streaming that
doesn't. You know the NEW Inside Xbox video streaming where it creates a
nice background with the video in a box, but it looks like full-screen video
(at least I THINK that's how its doing it). Its as if when trying to
generate that layout its failing somewhere so comes up with garbage.
However I am getting the TV replaced anyway at the moment so I can't check to
see if I am right about that. I really wish I had remembered to double check
which parts of Inside Xbox were failing now.
The delivery/warehouse guys really did a number on the TV though, some of the
button didn't work and I noticed the top right corner of the casing was
loose. The TV itself functioned perfectly from the remote so electrically
there was no damage, just a few buttons on the side that were broken so I
couldn't alter the volume or input from the TV itself. Enough to invalidate
the warranty so I ain't putting up with that. I am 100% sure none of this is
related to the problem though, so I will look like a real ass if it works on
the new TV.
As I understand it on the 360 its not like the output screen mode ever
changes - that's the point of how the 360 scaler works. Only the rendering
frame-buffer changes, the output resolution stays the same just scaling
whatever is in the rendering buffer to full screen. That's why I was
surprised it made any difference. I suspect its a glitch where at 1080p the
rendering buffer is going in to 1080p when it should be going in to 720p and
letting the scaler do the work. There do seem to be some differences between
how the software reacts to VGA compared to HDMI on the 360.
If anyone can replicate the problem then great, I know I am not going mad.
But I am sure you would the first person to congratulate me on being a nutter
if you could prove it.
I would have tested it on a PC monitor but I do not have one that can take
1080p input. We were going to get one but then decided to put the money
towards getting the 1080p TV instead considering it was only double the price
of a good monitor but also nearly double the size and a LOT more inputs,
DVB-T built-in, etc.
