Re: [Xbox] Re: please remove me from the group

LOL, I knew someone was going to pipe up about that.. LOL =)
(I'm going to preface this with I'm not talking about you personally.. this is all in general)

From what I've experianced on the net, it really boils down two things.  People are either on AOL because they have no other
choice (no other ISPs in your area.. including Cable/DSL/Fiber)  or, in general here, because the person still using AOL
tends to lack enough knowleadge of the internet that they feel they 'need' AOL in order to handle the Internet.

Granted, sometimes AOL is easier to explain to your grandmother how to go about checking her Email.
then telling her to just open IE and head out to www.gmail.com.    *shrug*   but to me, THAT's
a lot easier then loading the program.. wait for the connection.. hearing the 'You've got mail!" wav file
and then clicking another button to open/check the Email itself.

Also, AOL also is NOT the internet.   You are logging into their network which is connected
to the internet.  Real ISP's on the other hand are connected to the net, so there's no real need
for the middle man so to speak and there's nothing that AOL provides (beyond the connection service)
that the Internet itself doesn't provide for free, includeing Email, chat, forums etc.
if I remember correctly you get an AOL Email address with an AIM address.. both of which are
free and you don't even need to be on AOL in order to use them.

And honestly, towards the beginning of the net, quite a few trolls and flame starters where all
from AOL.  You could just look at threads on the newsgroups and see really stupid comments,
ideas, flames, etc all from people with AOL Email addresses.   so AOHELL has become an easy
target, and is a company that really doesn't need to exist any more, except to provide connection
service to otherwise un-reachable areas.
