Re: [Xbox] Help! Cannot get wireless adaptor to work on xbox 360 elite

Hello Nelson,

If you will go to:

it says that the ATT Yahoo 2-Wire Home Portal has been tested with Xbox live and can be used to connect the Xbox live. Just found this earlier when I was digging around trying to come up with some answers.

Thanks so much for the help.

A bunch of us will help you out.  Let's get the 1st question out of the way:

Are you trying to use the official Xbox 360 wireless adapter?

Also, your router isn't listed on their compatible page:

That doesn't mean it won't work, it just might mean we might need to play around with some settings.

thanks,
Nelson

Subject: [Xbox] Help! Cannot get wireless adaptor to work on xbox 360 elite

Folks I am a 63 year old grandfather who is trying to raise my two
grandsons. I got laid off from my job of 35 years but went into my
small retirement account to buy my 13 year old grandson an xbox 360
Elite System.

I recieved the xbox via mail from Wal-mart on 5/21/2008 and I and
three other people tried our best to get the wireless adaptor to work
and never got it going. One of the guys was real knowledgable with
Microsoft software and is even on their beta trial list. Hefinally
gave up and suggested we exchange the Xbox which we ultimately did.

Based on my failure, his failure, and two other fairly good computer
people I returned the wireless adaptor and got another one and had
the same problem. I then went and exchanged the xbox itself and still
had the same problem. It appears that the xbox does not recognize the
wireless adaptor. The light never changes from red and when you go to
settings and then edit the wireless configuration lines are not
highlighted so there is no way I can choose wireless adaptor.

I have ATT DSL 2Wire wireless system Serial # 974116015354 and there
is another number 2769699537.

I downloaded "Windows Connect Now" and actually had the
version "Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 -Update Roll Up 2" but
when I went to try and download the "Media Center Extender Update" I
would get a message that "The update to media center was not
successful. The computer will now be restarted and restored to the
state it was in before the update. Please try the installation again
or contact your hardware manufacture for assistance if the problem
persists" I was told to "Uninstall the update to Media Center 2005
and then re-install the update from the Windows Update Website then
run the Media Center Extender Setup again" I uninstalled the Update
Roll Up 2 thinking this was what I was supposed to do and then tried
to reinstall it and cannot get it reinstalled.

I now only have "Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005" and I am
unable todownload the "Windows XP Media Center Edition - Update Roll
Up 2" and without this I cannot download the Media Center Extender
update.

I have a two year old Sony Vaio Desktop - with Microsoft Windows XP -
Media Center Edition - Version 2002 - Service Pack 3 - CPU 2.8 GHZ -
1 GHZ of ram.

Please someone help me work this out. Thanks so much for helping this
old grandfather out.

Paul
