Re: [Xbox] Intercoolers....

Yep, we've done that one before... It's not that they're worthless, but
it's the designs and their effects on the 360's imperfect air cooling
design that's the bigger problem. Some folks use them without any
problems, some have had their systems smoked from use.

The biggest trick is that the non-HDD side needs to have more air
pushed into it. Slapping some models on the back doesn't solve the
problem and barely pulls any more air through them to do the job right.

GameStop makes one now that's cheap and plugs into one of the
USB ports. Still not the best but it has the least voltage draw on the
system and uses 3 small muffin fans to push more into that large
port.

The consensus around here has been that the best thing to do to
start is simply keep it in open air, don't stand it up on one side because
that's the side that needs improved air intake and make sure all the
airflow ports all the way around the body are clear. Don't put it inside
entertainment centers and such when in play so that it gets as much
cool, clean and fresh air as possible and you almost don't need any
kind of booster fans. But, it never hurts to use the GS model as an
add-on.

Water cooling sounds great but sounds like it requires voiding
the warranty by cracking open the case. If you then RRoD the
sucker, you're the proud owner of a dead box! But I'd be curious to
hear what your thoughts are on using a system like that and where
it'd draw it's power from to operate?
