I haven't seen a fan on an optical drive since a 1x CD-ROM burner!
Even my 2xCD burner had the same casing (you could see where the fan would go)
but lacked the fan. I was also under the impression that these days the
disks spin so fast that there is enough airflow without anyway.

I might just have to open up my Blu-ray drive to prove there is no fan inside
now. ;-) Its rather besides the point I support, the fact is a fan doesn't
mean it HAS to be super noisy, but in the case of the 360 unfortunately they
are and the one in the HD-DVD drive just makes matters worse when listening
in a quiet room.

It just annoys me that by all reports I have heard, the PS3 is MUCH quieter
than the 360 because its fans are better designed - although it still has its
own issues supposedly.

There just seems to be some seriously bad design choices in a lot of modern
hardware which is seriously frustrating.
