Re: [Xbox] Inside Xbox Problem

who's this "we" u speak of?

Okay I need to put the investigation on hold for now as I am getting confused. I THINK Inside Xbox itself works (I think), its the video streaming that doesn't. You know the NEW Inside Xbox video streaming where it creates a nice background with the video in a box, but it looks like full-screen video (at least I THINK that's how its doing it). Its as if when trying to generate that layout its failing somewhere so comes up with garbage. However I am getting the TV replaced anyway at the moment so I can't check to see if I am right about that. I really wish I had remembered to double check which parts of Inside Xbox were failing now. The delivery/warehouse guys really did a number on the TV though, some of the button didn't work and I noticed the top right corner of the casing was loose. The TV itself functioned perfectly from the remote so electrically there was no damage, just a few buttons on the side that were broken so I couldn't alter the volume or input from the TV itself. Enough to invalidate the warranty so I ain't putting up with that. I am 100% sure none of this is related to the problem though, so I will look like a real ass if it works on the new TV. As I understand it on the 360 its not like the output screen mode ever changes - that's the point of how the 360 scaler works. Only the rendering frame-buffer changes, the output resolution stays the same just scaling whatever is in the rendering buffer to full screen. That's why I was surprised it made any difference. I suspect its a glitch where at 1080p the rendering buffer is going in to 1080p when it should be going in to 720p and letting the scaler do the work. There do seem to be some differences between how the software reacts to VGA compared to HDMI on the 360. If anyone can replicate the problem then great, I know I am not going mad. But I am sure you would the first person to congratulate me on being a nutter if you could prove it. I would have tested it on a PC monitor but I do not have one that can take 1080p input. We were going to get one but then decided to put the money towards getting the 1080p TV instead considering it was only double the price of a good monitor but also nearly double the size and a LOT more inputs, DVB-T built-in, etc. Alex. hey alex, what if u unplug the cable from the tv, launch inside xbox, then plug it in, or try it on your pc monitor, maybe your 360 is flaking out PSCG Cleveland wrote:
Meanwhile, until I can complete my testing to see if there's any backup or as you said - no need for it... Vizio is one of the Top 2 LCD panel brands in the US, actually out of California. Never found any rebranding with them at all, so it'd be just straight up Vizio. They float between #1 and #2 in total sales and overall satisfaction BUT... they're cheap! That's the trick they're not budget-busters by any means yet they outperform virtually all of the competition. Olevia is the Syntax-Brillian faceplate brand and I believe they're from Europe so that name might be more recognizable. They're also in the low end of pricing but sadly the TV's are low-end in quality as well. Haven't had pixel dropouts, but geeze the quality of the menu/software and the headaches with the pieces of (#$#$$ are just stunning. Ended up with 2 of them in a situation where you take what you get, couldn't pick a Vizio or trust me - I would have. Just some background on those two brands FYI. 4 HDMI's? Ya, haven't seen that in the realistically affordable LCD TV market around here for sure! The Vizio's and Olevia's both only have 2 HDMI ports but at the least the Vizio's also have VGA/PC, 2 Compsites, 2 Components and F cable as well so it handles the wide variety of stuff in the US most folks still have if they haven't bought all brand new. Ever consider an HDMI switcher? There's a few really nice ones out there on websites for a couple hundred US$ even including remotes that allow you to select from 2 to even 8 HDMI sources into just one port on the TV. Well, I have never heard of the TVs you guys talk about. I'm guessing they are either rebranded over here or just not sold in the UK. Although I am far more limited by my budget than what is the best TV available. Technically this TV isn't mine, a friend bought it for use here rather than him having to buy a whole home cinema setup for his house. We chose LG because we have never seen a problem with their panels especially considering their price, and the alternative would have been to get a TV with far less features and smaller. This is one of the few TVs we could find with 4 HDMI ports too and they are all in use. While I would love a newer receiver with HDMI support (for 5.1 Lossless Blu-ray playback) they cost a fortune and still rarely seem to have more than a couple of HDMI ports. Most people seem to recommend Samsung but overall, I wasn't that impressed with my old TV with its overscan issues and crappy menu system. Although the picture quality was good for a 1366x768 panel you can totally see the difference in clarity jumping to 1920x1080. The main reason I asked if anyone else has the problem is because if you CAN'T reproduce it then maybe its my console at fault. No point bothering Microsoft about it if ALL current-motherboard 360s suffer the same problem on VGA. We are supposed to be getting a HDMI 360 at some point to pair with this TV anyway so its not critical and I will finally be able to play Conker on 360 again, silly M$ couldn't be bothered to include VGA support in the Conker BC for PAL regions. Was always pissed at that as the disk boots in a standard Xbox on VGA using a mod-chip to switch it to NTSC mode, as PAL mode Xboxes ignored the progressive scan flag, so the code itself clearly supports it. Although thank god the BC didn't just outright emulate a PAL Xbox or else NO PAL games would work on VGA, fortunately most do. I wonder if Conker will ever make it on to Xbox Originals? Would save messing around with the DVD. Alex. On Sunday 06 July 2008 18:39:47 PSCG Cleveland wrote:
It was a sane answer, might've sounded insane to you but to at least the two of us it's normality. Yes, the Samsung's a mess on more than just the software side - no argument. But, what you describe as pluses for the LG's - stock stuff on the Vizios we use that we've beat the living (#$* out of and never had any issues like this. All resolutions, multiple formats - never a dropout or glitch like you describe. Doesn't mean it's not happening, just that the Vizio's aren't doing it. Just to be fair and balanced, not making it look like I love to just poke you in the eye for fun and sport, I'm getting my hands on that exact cable and I'm going to give it a whirl with exactly what you've described on both the Vizio's I have working and also my personally annoying Olevia/Syntax Brillian 32" as well to see if the same thing pops up. And in response, I wasn't planning on giving you a solution - I was asking for those details to be able to duplicate it on other setups and see if there is a true glitch or possibly just one on your model of TV OR if it's just you and you're cursed. The details you originally gave is more like 'my ass hurts' and not 'my butt hurts when I sit on a metal table and it's -30f outside in the wintertime' which helps duplicate the environment. Since my Vizio's are on the road all the time in all kinds of temps and weather/power conditions if I asked the same thing no one would probably have the same issues. The Olevia's inside and stable, so that'd be a totally different environment. We've already noticed a difference in the calibration of Guitar Hero III's w/the Les Paul's and the Vizios depending on what kind of power is being supplied to it. Up to 18ms off in some cases. So that's why I asked where the rest of the info is, to see if it's something bigger you can't fix or something in your setups to investigate. If you'd rather just have Proph and me poke ya and never really respond to your posts when you ask for help or information, hey just ask! Of course, the second largest panel producer MUST be the problem. Seriously, the LG from what I have seen has FAR better software than other manufacturers. The Samsung remote and software is just pathetic. You couldnt easily jump from EXT1 to HDMI, you had to keep slowly (it would take about a second to respond) pressing the input select button. The LG you press input select and it gives you a list. The ONLY problems with the LG are ghosting on all inputs (all TVs do it from what I hear, its some bullshit to do with motion compensation, its not too noticable from a sane viewing distance thankfully) and problems in 100Hz mode with fast motion, but I think thats just the nature of trying to generate an extra frame from 2 frames - you are gonna get artifacts. So yeah please give a SANE answer. I am 99% sure this is the 360 at fault because the corruption is coming in clear, it just looks like a GPU crash to be honest but its not - because it works fine if you then exit back out. Like I said, its clearly not the TV as you well know once the 360 is set to a resolution it ALWAYS outputs that resolution. If the TV couldnt handle 1080p then ALL output at 1080p from the 360 would be affected, its purely some sort of problem upscaling Inside Xbox to 1080p over VGA on my xbox. Very odd. Mind you its not half as bad as the PS3. The 2.40 firmware update just broke the ability to steam AVIs, although some people had far worse issues needing a format of the hard drive in a PC to recover. Alex. Heh, well you said it... But why poor ole' LG? Zenith did so well slapping their nameplate on'em in the beginning, same with some other lower brands that ya know, 'never had issues'. Remember LG - Life's Good... when ya don't buy one. On Sun, Jul 6, 2008 at 12:50 PM, PRoPHeTiZeR <prophetizer@wrup.net>

Its not the TV as Virtua Tennis 3 runs at 1080p perfectly as do playing HD-DVD movies. Like I said, its ONLY Inside Xbox. I failed to give details because I wasn't asking for a fix, just curious if anyone else had the same glitch. For the record, this is the 42LG6000 my NEW TV. Alex.
