Well they had to do that, ya... Pogo nailed the whole thing as good as
I could have, I just went for the analogies! LOL

There's still AOL for Broadband and it's still locked-in for the most part,
you still install AOHell software that loads up your PC with useless gunk,
some whacky accellerator that doesn't work the best and you see what
AOHell wants you to see.

Time Warner's spinning off their Cable shortly to a stand-alone. Right
after that, AOL/Time Warner is about to become a little shorter when
they go find some saps to buy AOL off and take it away. So even they
realize that tired, old business model ain't cutting it anymore.

The freebies were for a matter of survival. They pitch you like MAD
to buy up into Premium services when you get it and if you don't use
it enough, they cut you loose - fast. Like 30 days w/out a login.

AOL's great just like Pogo said, for it's uses. But there comes a day
for most normal adults when you realize that you're done with the training
wheels and it's time to ride the Man's bike.
